Welcome to our ninth Weekly News Roundup, in which we report the news surrounding Dead Matter from the past week(s).
The Closed Alpha is approaching fast, and on the official blog we get weekly updates leading up to it. In this News Roundup we break down the June Update, June 19 Update and the June 26 Update. A lot to go through, so grab some coffee and enjoy!
Quests, NPCs & Dialogue
NPCs have been implemented, as well as a dialogue and quest system. The dialogues are branching and the quests can feature multiple ways of doing them. Quests are split into stages, which, based on the players actions, will change the progression and final outcome.
Survivor Player Mesh
The player mesh has been overhauled and will allow the player to customize his/her character, including facial hair and other things. The female player mesh will be worked on next.
Trading System
Along with the dialogue and NPCs, a trading system has been added to the game, allowing players to trade items with NPCs or other players.
Map Expansion
The map size for the Closed Alpha will be around 7.5km x 7.5km, which is much more than originally planned. Below you can see screenshots from a new region that we didn't see before.
Safe Areas
The safe areas, which are HUBs for trading and picking up quests, have been fleshed out.
Claiming & Barricading
Claiming structures and barricading is now working, as you can see in the video. There is still some work left to do with the system, but it's functioning and will be available in the Closed Alpha release.
Foraging
As demonstrated in this video, you can now gather crafting materials from the environment, such as plants, seeds, branches, stones, etc.
Weapon Animations
The Shiny Haxorus is working on getting all the weapons in the game animated. Here you can see one of the new civilian weapons in action.
Rural Areas & Secret Cave
The map design team has been working on the rural areas of the map, as well as this cave that can be entered.
Chemlights
Chemlights have been added to the game, they can be used to illuminate areas or mark locations.
Vehicle Optimizations & Gas Pumps
The vehicles in the game have seen various optimizations, and gas pumps are now fully functioning. A menu has been created to allow refilling vehicles.
Clocks
As seen here, the game will feature working clocks, displaying the real in-game time.
Electricity System
The electricity system is being worked on, and will be available in the Closed Alpha. Turning on or off electricity for a structure will not always be as simple as seen in the video.
Campfire
Gunschlinger has been working on implementing a craftable campfire, which will slowly burn out over time if not attended to.
Go Kart Track
Nomad added the Go-Kart track to the map, which we've seen parts of previously. The Go-Karts themselves have received an art pass.
Eder Pistol
The Eder Pistol model has received a detail upgrade and is now ready to be textured.
R700 Sniper Rifle
The Animations for the Remington 700 Sniper Rifle have been finished and the weapons has been implemented to the game as shown in the video.
Radio Station & Storage Facility
Two more safezones have been added to the map, the Duke Cartilage's radio station safehouse and the Dominion Storage Facility.
