Dead Matter was originally a Mod for Crysis 2, released on Mod DB in 2013.
Since 2016 Dead Matter is being developed as a crowdfunded standalone title by Quantum Integrity Software, using the Unreal 4 Engine. It has appeared on Steam Greenlight, Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Unreal 4 Engine, Dead Matter takes place in
Alberta, Canada, two weeks after the outbreak of a virus, which renders its victims highly aggressive and without higher brain function, they become feral and attack anything on sight.
In Dead Matter you have to survive against the infected roaming the streets of Alberta, Canada. Gather supplies, weapons, ammunition, take care of your primary needs, find shelter, defend yourself... against infected as well as other survivors in a persistent multiplayer environment.

We've crafted our depiction of Alberta to be the ultimate survival sandbox; lush with variety and life, from the wild forests and lakes of the Rockies, to the once bustling city of Calgary.
To effectively simulate a breathing world, we've built our metagame and AI systems to support true variety. Expect the unexpected: any forest trek, highway cruise, or grocery store trip could lead you on crossed paths with a settlement of soldiers, a band of scavengers, or simple families searching for shelter, all of which will do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival.
