Welcome to our first Weekly News Roundup, our new format, in which we will report on all the small news and happenings around Dead Matter.
Since this is our first entry of the weekly roundups, we have some catching up to do and go back more than just a week. We'll take a look at some new weapons and items, the new town of Canmore, the gore system and improvements to the inventory.
New Weapons
The devs posted some nice images of three new weapons on the official Twitter and Discord. The SIG Sauer P220 pistol, the AS Val rifle and the VSS Vintorez sniper rifle.
As shown in the pictures, all of these new weapons can be changed with various attachments, the AS Val also features a foldable stock.
Rangefinder
Nomad has finished a new item, the Rangemaster 1000.
Canmore Town
Shirk has been working on the map, adding a new town, which will be available in the closed alpha release. Located west from Calgary, Canmore is based on the real world Canmore in Alberta, Canada.
Inventory Improvements
A lot of work is going into the UI at the moment, or more specifically, the inventory screen. Lead Developer Nik Z is sharing his progress on his Twitter.
One of the new features are destroyed cells, when a container item (I.e. Backpack) is damaged, it will have destroyed cells which will be unable to hold items. So when your backpack is 50% damaged, half of its cells will be damaged. A great system that was suggested by a user on Discord.
Gore System
Lead Developer Nik Z shared some images of the gore system, without any context. However from earlier videos, we have an idea how it looks. In case you missed them, you can check the videos here and here.
The Blue Ring of Calgary
Traveling Light, so the official name of this art installation which can be found in Calgary, Canada where Dead Matter takes place. Also called just the Blue Ring, made its way into the game now. The Sculpture is kind of a joke, 17 meters tall, it costed $ 471,000 - and people hate it, including the Calgary Mayor. For reference, on the right you can see the real thing.
