Development Diary #9, posted on March 3rd, 2018, on the official Dead Matter Forums.

Author Note: This post was made early in the Dead Matter development and some of the information provided may be outdated at the time of reading.

Another Bunker Update

Shirk has been finishing up the bunker/tunnel underground pieces. As mentioned in a previous development diary, these are modular and can be rearranged in a number of ways. From maintenance tunnel to bunker, the possibilities are many.

Industrial Assets

Chaoss has been working on various industrial style assets for factories and the like. One large exterior tower and various consoles for the interiors.

New Diner

Chaoss is showing us a new diner building he's been working on, which not only serves as a place to loot, but also has, once you restored power to the place, functional kitchen appliances where you can engage in cooking larger quantities of foods.
Besides the cooking appliances you can also make use of the larger refrigerators, keeping food fresh for longer.
As for the most buildings in Dead Matter, the diner consists of modular pieces snapped together, allowing them to be repurposed and remixed to create an almost limitless number of varieties.

Vehicle Updates

Nomad has been working on the first proper vehicle for Dead Matter (previously shown ones were just placeholders), the pickup truck will have a functioning dashboard, which, just like in reality, will show you things such as speed, beam status, fuel, and some indications to the vehicles status. The pickup truck is based on the 1985 Ford F-150.
As with many things in Dead Matter, a big focus is on variety. The vehicles, even though of the same type will have varying details to make them more distinct from one another. So expect to find many different interior and exterior details, such as the random generated license plates.

Sky and Stars Update

The sky and stars have been reworked and look much better now. The stars, as we've come to expect in modern games, are an accurate representation of the real world and not only look nice but can also be used for basic navigation during the night.

New Food Items

Dusty has created a bunch of new food items for the game, such as milk a carton and various canned foods.

Train Tracks

Besides the industrial pieces, Chaoss worked on some tracks and props for the planned train network. In the previous Development Diary we talked more in detail about the idea of drivable trains in Dead Matter.

Character Meshes

Dogtoothcg has been working on the base character meshes. The player characters in Dead Matter will be customizable, allowing you to change things such as hairstyles, body hair, facial details and more.
